How licensing works

  • Install once. The same installer covers every tier. Your tier is determined by the licence key you load (or no key, for Free).
  • Free needs no key. Install Cypherrum and use the free tier indefinitely — no account, no email, no telemetry. The free tier covers local vault use plus LAN / direct-WAN sharing.
  • Premium / Team need a signed key. Your key is a short signed token you paste into the app. Verification is cryptographic and happens on your machine; the key is bound to a machine fingerprint (a salted hash of your machine ID — we never see your actual machine ID).
  • Offline grace. Licences stay valid for 30 days without contacting any server. Even if our infrastructure disappears, your installed copy keeps working for at least a month.
  • No vault hostage. Your vaults are encrypted with keys that live on your machine — losing a Premium licence does NOT lock you out of your data. At worst, you fall back to Free-tier feature limits.

FAQ

  • Is the free tier time-limited?

No. The Free tier is free forever for personal local use, with the feature limits shown in the table above.

  • What happens if my licence expires?

The app keeps working with Free-tier features. Your vaults stay accessible — Cypherrum never holds your data hostage. Paid features simply lock until you renew.

  • Can I move my licence between machines?

Licences are bound to a machine fingerprint at activation. For legitimate moves (new laptop, reinstall, hardware change) write to support@cypherrum.com and we'll re-issue.

  • Is Cypherrum open source?

The cypherrum-relay (TURN/STUN fallback) is open source under GPL-3.0. The desktop application is closed source — licence holders receive signed binaries, not source. The vault on-disk format is fully documented in the format specification so anyone can implement a compatible reader.

  • Refund policy?

14-day no-questions-asked refund for new purchases, per Hungarian / EU consumer-protection law. Email support@cypherrum.com.
